Avalon is truly a cut above. The accommodations, staff, food, tours - everything was first class. This is our second river cruise with Avalon and certainly will not be our last. The conversion to the Monograms land portion was seamless as well; transfer to the trains and then to our ultimate hotels was handled very well. The only criticism i would have is that the assigned hotel in London - Park Plaza County Hall - was advertised as 4 star, first class. Not quite. The hotel is quite old and while kept up, it is not a 4 star hotel. There was an upgrade to the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge right across the street which we were not made aware of and don't know if we would have taken advantage of it not having the experience of the County Hall property. In my humble opinion, Monograms should upgrade all travelers to the Westminster facility even if they had to charge a little more.

Tis was our first river cruise so we had no expectations regarding the cabin. It turned out to be quite comfortable, well maintained by the staff and an overall good experience. We believe the price of the trip was fair but again we have no real basis of comparison.

Soazig at Affordable Tours is amazing to work with. She is friendly and personable to work with. I always feel she is looking out for our best interest. She returns emails and phone calls almost immediately. Because of her I have recommended Affordable Tours and Soazig to many other friends.

Completely surpassed my expectations. I think that this will be the only way for us to travel Europe from now on....Avalon river cruise!

Every aspect of this Rhine River cruise trip - from the competent and expeditious booking, to the actual river cruise itself - far exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were high, as a first-time river cruiser. The Avalon Waterways ship, the Felicity, was spacious, aesthetically lovely, and comfortable whether you like to take in the view from the outside deck or inside lounge; the food was plentiful, varied and consistently delicious (not as extensive a selection as food on larger ocean liners but absolutely sufficient); the stateroom was blissfully quiet (though on the lowest, least expensive deck), bed firm and comfortable, shower strong and refreshing; the staff was amazing - both friendly and efficient without fail; the shore excursions were well-planned and interesting, all with fabulous tour guides (except a couple who were OK, not great); the guests were amiable, enjoyable to be with, and (most important) prompt for all excursions, causing no inconvenience to others; the balance was perfect between physical activity (most excursions were walking tours, so we were "on the go" much of the day) and eating and relaxation. The only real glitch (common on river cruises, as I learned) was the inability of the ship to move, as planned, from port to port on the last 3 days of the cruise - due to high waters. We were stuck in one port (Mainz) an extra night, then moved on to Strasbourg one day late, and could never make it to Basel, which was supposed to be the disembarkation stop. This resulted in considerable extra time on buses (4 hours, one day) in order to keep us from missing the planned excursions for those last 3 days, as nothing was cancelled. The cruise director did what she could to make up for the inconvenience - (1) gave each passenger money to purchase snacks and lunch on shore, and (2) provided us with an extra excursion for no charge. For those of us willing to "go with the flow" (the vast majority), this did not detract from our enjoyment of the cruise. We simply learned that too-high or too-low water levels are to be expected on river cruises, and this can cause delays and cancellations. Despite that potential problem, I became a huge fan of river cruises as a result of this trip, and my sister-in-law (my trip partner for this Rhine cruise) and I have already booked a Danube cruise for next year.

"Romantic Rhine 2015" with Avalon Waterways was a surprise beyond the expected itinerary. We were comparing it to our 2011 Netherlands-Belgium Avalon river cruise. Picture a full afternoon floating down the Rhine River Valley for 4-5 hours of castles & fortresses narrated by the Cruise Director himself sitting there with you in the lounge or you could run around the outside & top decks with him over the PA system!!!

Our room had lots of noise coming from the suite above us. The represenative didn't come with us on many of the excursions. The hotel Movenpick in Zurick and Amsterdam was to far out of the city centre and the cost to get there and back was expensive.

Our river boat cruise was a wonderful experience! It exceeded our expectations.

The accommodations were very adequate. The tour director was excellent. The trip was tiring because so much was offered, but we always had the option of skipping some options. The tour director went out of his way to help us meet with a friend in Germany. We appreciate the special service. Thank you for putting together this wonderful vacation.
