Here, residents cycle along wide streets, relax in leafy parks and dine under the stars in open-air restaurants. It’s known as a global financial centre, but there’s also one of Europe’s most eclectic cultural scenes, world-class contemporary art and a fascinating history.
Check in to your historic hotel in Zurich for an overnight stay.
Set off on foot this morning for a walking tour with a local guide. Zurich is one of the world’s great walking cities, with a flat centre, many pedestrian-only streets and historic bridges. Wander along the Bahnhofstrasse, the city’s main street that’s lined with glamorous boutiques and international flagship stores. Straddling both sides of the Limmat River, Zurich’s Old Town is a pleasant jumble of tiny laneways, cobbled squares and medieval buildings. Don’t miss St Peter’s Church, where the original 9th century foundations are still visible beneath the chancel and the iconic twin towers of the Grossmünster church.
Then, travel through the impossibly pretty town of Lucerne. Perched on the edge of the spectacular Lake Lucerne, you’ll find exquisite medieval architecture, a 685-year-old wooden footbridge (the oldest in Europe), and glimpses of the majestic Alps in the distance.
Arriving in Bern check in to your luxurious hotel for some well-deserved rest.
It’s back on the road this morning for your first taste of the Swiss Alps in the village of Gstaad. A favourite with the international jet set, Gstaad is renowned as a ski resort in winter and an outdoor adventure playground in summer. The first thing you’ll see is the magnificent Gstaad Palace hotel, which looks like a fairytale castle perched above the tiny village. Stroll through the chic shopping district and admire the jaw-dropping views.
Wind your way back down to the lakeside town of Montreux. It sits on the edge of Lake Geneva, one of the largest lakes in Western Europe that is shared between Switzerland and France. Montreux is known as the Swiss Riviera for its stunning scenery, charming waterfront, perfect climate and chic lifestyle.
Check in to your hotel for a two night stay. It’s just a few steps from the shore of the lake, and offers elegant rooms, fine Swiss cuisine and an indulgent spa.
Why not take the opportunity to wake early and walk along a section of the path that runs around the shore of Lake Geneva. There are beautiful views over the calm water, with boats bobbing at anchor and mountains in the distance. You can join the path right out the front of the hotel.
Today we will venture to the neighbouring town of Vevey, often referred to as one of the ‘Pearls of the Riviera’ and the one-time home of comedian, Charlie Chaplin. Here you will enjoy a visit to Chaplin’s World, a museum dedicated to the life and works of the renowned actor and film maker.
After returning to Montreux, you will have a free afternoon to enjoy the splendours of this beautiful lake side city.

This morning offers up a wonderful selection of Scenic Freechoice activities to choose from:
Excursion to Colmar: Take an excursion over the French border to the colourful town of Colmar, a unique Alsatian town that is often referred to as ‘Little Venice’ for its network of canals and bridges, originally used by fishermen and market gardeners. These quaint waterways are lined with half-timbered houses in an array of pastel colours, and its town centre is charming with cobblestoned streets and traditional architecture. You’ll also get to taste traditional Flammkuchen, a flatbread that is the specialty of the region.

Because of its loose covered volcanic soils, the Kaiserstuhl is known as a very good wine-producing region. During your visit, sample some of these delicious drops.
Excursion to Freiburg: Located on the edge of the Black Forest, Freiburg is a picturesque city. Enjoy a guided walking tour through the lively medieval town centre to see the Freiburg Minster, a 13th century cathedral that was one of only few in Germany that survived the bombings during the Second World War.

It is the oldest of the German ‘porcelain palaces’ and the only one to survive intact to this day.

This cruise was spectacular. Very 5 star food and accommodations. Crew went above and beyond to make you feel like family. Many made our experience so memorable. Cruise hotel Manager was amazing! I can't thank them all for the world-class experience we received! Definitely will book with Scenic again!
First Scenic River Cruise enjoyed and possibly try Danube River Experience.
Scenic River Cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest was exceptional. Even though we had to change ships from low river waters, the Cruise Director and staff made the all inclusive trip a winner! Great food, beverages, and service. We would recommend!
From start to finish, everything was excellent. I never once had to open my wallet, and the food, drink, and excursion choices were wide and varied. The room was so nice, and the bed was one of the best beds I have ever slept in. If you want to be pampered, I highly recommend Scenic.
Scenic Cruises gave me a top-notch experience. They set the standard for the term 'all inclusive.' They went above and beyond (unlike a certain cruise line that i used in 2025) to assure that all passengers had a great experience. Also, I called the operator directly twice while traveling due to flight issues and was immediately connected with representatives who, in both cases, we're very helpful.
Scenic truly provided a lovely, well organized, well planned river cruise. We enjoyed every minute.
Everything about this trip with Scenic was made easy from the moment we got off the plane. All transfers were taken care of and simple. Once onboard the quality of service was exceptional and the food was amazing.
Scenic provided an exceptional trip via staff, meals, and experiences. Our tour guide was extraordinary and handled even the slight setback of low water with ease and grace. I would recommend them to anyone interested in river travel.
People didn't really dress for dinner. Men in jeans were allowed in the dining room at night for dinner. That did not happen at another Scenic Cruise we were on. Very disappointed about this. We belong to a private Country Club and men will be turned away at the entrance for this dressing in jeans. Scenic is lowering their standards by doing this. We won't travel Scenic again because of the lower dress codes. Not a top of the line company if this is allowed.
Scenic delivered an Above & Beyond Experience that we will cherish forever. The ENTIRE ship personnel was the epitome of what customer service should be!
Scenic River Cruise was fantastic. Service and food were both absolutely wonderful. Exceeded our expectations and will travel again with Scenic.
The ship was luxurious. The staff were professional and attentive. We would definitely travel with Scenic again.
Scenic River Cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest was a wonderful experience. The ship's staff and amenities afforded us a very comfortable experience. The food sometimes challenged us to try new and regional dishes, which we really enjoyed. But alternate choices were always available, as well. The other passengers were friendly and we made many new acquaintances on our trip. Best part...? All inclusive! We may have made a small tip here and there, but nothing was expected during excursions, tours, dining, bar or hospitality services. Great entertainment on various occasions.
Scenic were exceptional. They have to be the best operators of river cruises.Every aspect of the trip with them was of a very high standard. The cabins (suites) were large and very comfortable (we had the lowest level,so I can imagine what the higher levels would have been like!). All the meals served were excellent with plenty of variety and imagination.Every member of staff we encountered was helpful and smiley. The excursions were excellent with high level guiding .Overall a very good experience.and I would highly recommend them.
