Day 4 (May 05, 2015): GIBRALTAR, UNITED KINGDOM

Today, your tour will include a panoramic drive from the harbor to the border of Spain, along the eastern shore of Gibraltar, past the delightful Catalan Bay, arriving at Europa Point. Pass the Trafalgar Cemetery on your way to the Gibraltar Museum; once part of a Moorish bathhouse, today it showcases collections of the region’s history. You may choose to explore the top of the rock, perched 1,400 feet above the sea, where you can catch sight of the resident Barbary macaques. In the heart of old town, where Viking Star berths, you will have the afternoon to explore. Start in the historic quarter, Gamle Stavanger, which has Europe’s highest concentration of wooden buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries and visit the Norwegian Canning Museum for a glimpse into the past. Or take a cruise along the Lysefjord to see the famous Preikestolen (“Pulpit Rock”) natural attraction that juts out nearly 2,000 feet above. Offshore oil drilling is an important industry for the local economy and the award-winning Petroleum Museum tells the story of the dangers faced extracting this precious fuel.
